Frequently Asked Questions

What is BISMUTH??

Google would tell you that bismuth is a “naturally occurring, brittle, crystalline, silver-ish metal”...which it is. However we just see it as a non-toxic duck crusher! With a density of 9.6 g/cc (grams per cubic centimeter) bismuth falls almost perfectly between lead (11.2) and steel (7.8). When you crank the velocity up to 1350-1400 fps (feet per second) you got a duck killing round that preforms BETTER than the lead shot of the old days.

Why use BISMUTH??

The simple answer is less cripples. Fewer lost birds left wounded and dying in the marsh and more clean kills. More bagged limits and less fired rounds. Your steel shot rounds may only cost you .79 cents to $1.20 a round but when it takes you 3+ rounds to finish off that bird you knocked down at 35+ yards, you end up spending more money. In the hands of a skilled wing shooter and with a proper choke, our bismuth rounds here at Flight Day Ammunition can CLEAN KILL mallards and geese at 50+ yards.

How is Flight Day different from other companies??

We know there are a lot of highly reputable companies these days that also sell bismuth rounds. However our rounds here at Flight Day Ammunition are different. All of our bismuth shot is made by us in house. We do not source pellets from an outside manufacturer. As mentioned above, bismuth is a brittle metal. To combat this we use a proprietary blend of bismuth and tin to maintain density and add a level of hardness in the pellets not found in all other companies. This drastically reduces the amount of pellet fractures that you will see in other manufactures rounds.

Every single round made by Flight Day Ammunition utilizes a full length wad inside the cartridge to encase all of the pellets. This reduces the damage to the pellets for the fraction of a second they are traveling down the barrel. The full length wad also helps produce phenomenal patterns down range and holds the pattern together for longer past 40 yards. In addition to the full length wad, each round contains a “hand load” style cushion between the pellets and the bottom of the wad. This also helps protect the pellets from fracture and damage at the moment the trigger is pulled.
